Matariki with our Buddy class

Room 12 is our buddy class. On the first day of Matariki, we made sushi and space art together. Here is a photo of us. Hop you like it!

Week 9 writing Stargazer

As he stood alone on the frozen surface of the lake, wrapped up well against the bitterly cold wind, Peeta glimpsed something extraordinary through his camera. It was a rainbow shaped cluster of stars! “This I have to catch through my camera,” whispered Peeta as he snapped away. He was skimming through the photos, when a red light started flashing on the camera screen. “Go! Leave! This place in dangerous! Earth is gonna explode in 20 minutes! Go to Persephone! Go Leave! This place is dangerous! Earth is gonna explode in 20 minutes! Go to Persephone! From the stars,” bellowed a voice from up above. Peeta was dumbfounded, but sprinted over to the NASA base.

Luckily it was only a few 100 meters away. Peeta tumbled into the laboratory and alerted to everyone, “The stars have sent me a message! They say Earth is going to explode in 20 minutes! We need to warn everyone and leave at once to somewhere called Persephone!” “Stop talking nonsense kid. That’s impossible. Our satellites would have sent us a message about this,” replyed a slim, tall man as he towered over Peeta. Everyone nodded except for three people. Some guy who had the name tag Buzz, Space commander, some guy standing next to him, and a small, plump, happy looking chap who waddled over to Peeta.

The other 2 disappeared into the crowd, who were inching forward, looking at puffed Peeta. “Hey kid, I believe you. Let’s leave, together,” whispered the plump man as he bent over, with difficulty. “Oh, whatever Donald,” murmured the man from before. “C’mon, back to work everyone.” Everyone except for Donald drifted away, going back to work.

“C’mon, what are you waiting for kid? Let’s go,” announced Donald as he sprung up, his belly wobbling. Donald and Peeta ran around the place, looking for a spacecraft. “Apollo 12 was packed and ready a few hours ago, that should be still there,” stated Donald as he jogged behind Peeta. They came to an empty field with little specks of embers on the ground.

“Wh-where’s the spacecraft,” wondered Peeta he streaked across the empty field. “I swear it was here a few minutes ago, anyway, I think we’ll just have to use the temporary spacecraft then,” announced Donald as he strode away. 10 minutes later, they came to a big pod, with blaster on all four sides. “Get in,” whispered Donald as he hopped in. “I know I'm breaking at least 75 rules here, but I don’t care.” Peeta scrambled in after Donald.

He slammed the door shut and Donald toke the controls. Kaboom! There was a big cracking sound, and the roof gave way. Donald flew upwards, and they were off. Peeta caught a glimpse of the rapidly moving clouds as they zoomed past them, going ever so high. Finally, they came to a screeching halt. They were moving as slow as sloths. They were in space. Peeta looked behind him, wondering how much time the people on earth had until it exploded, then, BANG! Half of the earth burst into flames as the other half slowly began to burn to a crisp.

“I think we just made it by a whisker,” thought Peeta as he took a slow tragic breath. All his family and friends, all dead. He didn’t think about warning them. Hey, at least he was still alive. “Hey look! There’s another spacecraft over there. I thought it was rest hour. There shouldn’t be any now! Oh look over there! It’s heading over to a planet!!! It looks fabulous! Let’s following the spacecraft. Might come in handy, ok kid,” asked Donald as he swerved over. Peeta didn’t even have to nod. Donald was already making his way over. “Anyway, what’s your name? You haven’t introduced yourself yet.” “I’m Peeta.” “Hey, nice name kid.” “Thanks.

” A few hours later they touched down on the crunchy snow. “Brwww… It’s cold,” trembled Donald as he inched his way out shivering in the cold. “You can have one of my jumpers,” insisted Peeta as he past one over. “Thanks.” “No problem.” The other people had just crawled out of their spacecraft and looked Peeta’s way.

It were the 2 people from NASA! Who looked thoughtful for a moment! “Buzz! Andrew! How nice it is to see you!” cried Donald as he scrambled over to them. Buzz hugged Donald as they whirled around. Peeta looked over at Andrew, who was eyeing him like a hawk. Andrew gave him a weak smile and that’s when Peeta realised Andrew’s foot. It was cut off and he was leaning against the spacecraft, wheezing. “Anyway, where are we,” asked Donald as he looked around. “Persephone. I was here on my latest expedition*,” answered Andrew as he looked down at the white snow. “I know a place to stay. A cave. C’mon. Let’s go. Better leave before we freeze. Here you see these tracks? Follow those.” Andrew led the way as Peeta stayed at the back. He wanted to get to the cave, fast.

Another world

Continues from Alodia Wk 2/3 T2 Moon Landing
More writing. Hope you love it!

Andrew and Neil crawled out of the icy pool of water and looked around them. It definitely didn’t look like what it did from the outside. This was an absolute nightmare. Everywhere they looked, there was snow for hundreds of miles. Maybe if they walked on, they could find warmth? But first, Andrew needed to get dressed into something warm. His teeth were chattering like keys on a keyboard. “One moment Neil, I need to get changed.” Andrew got behind a rock and got dressed. When he come out, Neil was nowhere to be seen. He, was gone.
In front of him was a track of what looked like gigantic tractor wheels. What was it? Were there other humans on this planet? Was it a monster with tractor wheels? There was nothing else to do but to follow them. Maybe he could find his friend.
Andrew had been following the trail for several hours. Hood drawn up over his head to protect him from the savage wind, he continued to trudge along. The only sounds Andrew could hear were the crunch of his feet as they penetrated the layer of snow underneath him, and the faint sound of a cracking sound above his head. He took his hands away from his mouth, (Which he had been warming up) and looked up. It was what looked like the moon, cracking!!! Was it actually cracking? Was Buzz dead? Was he going to stay here without Buzz saving him? Andrew talked to himself. “It’s gonna be okay. It’s gonna be okay,” whispered Andrew as he continued to wander across the plains. This could go on for hours.
Finally, Andrew came to a rocky cave with a small opening. He slid in and looked around. The cave was lit with torches and there were paintings of dragons on the walls. Andrew continued scanning the cave and saw a door, made of rock. He tiptoed towards it and the door creaked open by itself. He peeked in. Inside, was the motionless body of Neil! “Neil! Neil!” Andrew rushed over and checked his pulse. It was still. He was sitting inside a huge pot filled with boiling water. He was roasted. He was dead.
“I see you have come,” Bellowed a deep, gruff, voice. Andrew whipped his head around and saw a monster. It had large ears and tiny wings on his slimy, green back. He had blood all over his teeth. Andrew winced. “This has been a trick, to lure you in to my cave, so I can have second servings,” laughed the ‘thing’. He started rolling on the ground, holding his stomach. For some reason, Andrew thought the thing reminded him of a human
“What are you,” whimpered Andrew as he backed up against the cool wall. “I am the king of Persephone!” “Persephone?” “Do your research boy! Persephone is Hades, or Pluto’s wife. This planet is named after the beautiful Persephone. We people are deciding to destroying that wretched dwarf planet Pluto, to avenge darling Persephone.”
Andrew heard a deafening BOOM! And looked up at ‘thing’. “Was that you,” wondered Andrew as he slid over to the door. “Nah your friend here was very tasty so my tummy didn’t rumble,” answered ‘thing’ as he looked up. “ I better eat you now boy, or you could run away!” He lunged at poor Andrew as he dodged the heavy figure. “Arrhhhh!” Growled ‘thing’ as he backed up. With another BOOM!, the ceiling give in, crushing down ‘thing’ as he wailed and cried. “Aiaiai Ahhh! Help me boy!” “No thanks.” Andrew ran as fast as his legs could take him.
Andrew leaped out just in time as something enormous crushed the cave. It was the moon! It had fallen! Andrew opened and closed his mouth like a fish looking for a meal. His problems weren’t solved yet. The moon rolled swiftly towards him. All he could think of was run! He sprinted and sprinted towards nowhere as the moon followed him like a dog. Soon, Andrew came to a cliff! Beneath the cliff was a pit of snakes, opening and closing their mouth looking for dinner. There was nowhere to go. If he moved back he would get squished, but if he jumped he would get eaten. He would much rather get eaten than squished, so there was nothing to do.
He jumped. He fell into the slippery pits of the snakes. It was surprisingly comfortable. He closed his eyes and held his breath. Nothing happened. He opened his heavy eyelids. He was so stupid! The moon would fall off the cliff and would come rolling after him, but surprisingly, the moon stopped! All the frightened snakes all slid away or got squished. He was saved! He was saved! He slowly stood up with his aching legs and looked behind him. He nimbly climbed up the moon and got back onto the cliff.
He looked up and saw the glimpse of the apollo 11! He called out, “Hey! Hey! Down here!” The aircraft slowly descended down to the icy ground. “Buzz! How are you alive,” asked Andrew, hugging Buzz.
“It’s a long story. So the moon cracked, and I fell through! But then, a peculiar animal came and saved me! He was a dark purple color with lots of skinny arms. I asked him where to find you, and he said that the moon would fall, and wherever it landed, you guys would be. Anyway, where’s Neil,” asked Buzz suspiciously as he finally broke out of Andrew’s arms.
“He’s dead. Hot boiled. Roasted. Cooked. Anyway, can we go back to earth? I’m freezing.” “Ok Andrew, let’s go. We will have a funeral back at home.” Andrew climbed into the ship and lay on the floor and fainted.
When he woke up, he was lying in the recovery room of NASA. His family were all surrounding him worriedly. “Oh Andrew,” cried his wife as she hugged him. “We thought you were dead!!!” whailed his little boy, Tarek. Andrew loved being an astronaut, but he loved staying with his family even more.

Moon landing

We have been doing some writing about this picture. I hope you like it!

Moon Landing
The tremendous ship landed on the surface of the jagged moon with a bounce. Glistening stars shone in the gloomy sky like sparkling sapphires. The delighted astronauts could see Earth as small as an ant. All seemed to be going well, but then the warning alarm on the ship sounded…
“Neil. Neil come in! Neil, we have a problem… The wind’s picking up. You two better get on the ship, or the strong wind will blow you away!”
Neil and Noah clumsily run to the spaceship, when they were blown away into the pitch black sky!
“Neil and Andrew, you get here right now.”
But it’s to late. The two helpless astronauts float away. They flounder around in the sky as they pass bright glittery stars like diamonds, numerous planets, and rocky asteroids. It would have been a perfect moment, but it wasn’t. They were floating in the middle of nowhere, and they had nowhere to go.
“What do we do?” whispered Andrew as they floated even farther from the moon.
“We could try to contact Buzz, but we might not have any connection.” replied Neil as he pulled his receiver out of his pocket. “Damn it. No radio connection.”
“ Hey look! Does that thing look like a planet Neil?” asked Andrew.
Indeed Andrew was right. Neil looked up to see a rather peculiar looking planet. It was covered with grass and little specks of what looked like oceans. It looked exactly like the Earth, but more big and magnificent.
He could see jungles that were as bright as 100W light bulbs. There were long pieces of wood flying around the planet, projecting light onto the jungle. When they flew closer, they realised the pieces of wood were actually dragons!
They were covered in beautiful patterns that shone like diamonds. They had curly horns and wings that flapped gracefully.
“Oh, My, Gosh.” exclaimed Neil. “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!” “OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! What in the world is this place? It looks s-s-so majestical!” screamed Neil as he started doing backflips.
“Chill Neil.” Andrew suggested as he tried to calm Neil down. “It’s one thing about looking at it, and it’s another thing landing on it.”
“Good point. I didn’t realise that.” Neil answered stupidly. “How are we gonna do it?”
“We’re gonna have to jump.” replied Andrew. “ 3...2...1… JUMP!”
With all their might, they leaped as high and as far as they could, they looked like professional long jump champions! They made it into the magnetic field and started to fall at 100 kpm! They landed in a lake with very deep water. They were safe. Well for now...
